Winter, Within is a series of analogue double exposures combining portraits with winter landscapes. Shot on a Nikon F2 using Ilford FP4 black and white film, my work embraces in-camera experimentation and the uncertainty of the analogue process.
The winter environment is here an extension of an inner emotional state, a psychological condition. I used Lensbaby optics to introduce softness and optical imperfection, disrupting photographic clarity in favour of atmosphere and ambiguity.
Through double exposure, the boundaries between body and environment dissolve. The images resist clear narrative, instead evoking memory, absence, and the quiet persistence of presence, like thoughts that linger long after their origin has faded.
