Introduction to the Project
Portraits for No One is an ongoing series of short films that combine original stories, fine art photography, narration and sound into dreamlike, surreal video impressions.
Each 7–10 minute piece explores themes of solitude and belonging, altruism and courage, and the search for consolation, hope and renewal after personal loss.
The stories are written in the style of magical realism and paired with sequences of surreal, black-and-white photographs. Together, they form a multilayered metaphor — transforming fragments of real experience into something universal, strangely familiar, yet never literal.
Through these poetic visual essays, the project seeks to explore the human condition — its fragility, beauty and quiet strength.
About “Breakfasts at Maribel”
Breakfasts at Maribel is the first episode and an introduction to the metaphoric universe of Portraits for No One.
Formed from fifty photographs, the video features a single actress who becomes many: the traveller, the photographer, the dream dweller, the mysterious waitress, the villager, and others who seem to appear and vanish within the folds of memory and imagination.
It’s a meditation on identity and transformation — on how we inhabit different selves across moments, dreams and recollections.
