If you could travel back in time, what would you say to your younger self?
We like to believe that wisdom can travel backwards, that a few carefully chosen words might spare us wrong turns and heartbreak. Yet it seems more likely that time travel would be possible than that our younger selves would truly listen. And perhaps they shouldn’t. Without those naïve decisions, those wrong turns and those heartbreaks, the older self would never exist.
Perhaps the younger self doesn’t need instruction after all, only permission to become the person they are yet to be.
This series began many years ago when I first worked with Liudmila, a remarkably talented, sensitive and generous person. Only years later did these photographs find their true meaning. In a way, this project became my own journey back in time, not to change the past, but simply to say: thank you, Liudmila, for your trust, your talent, and the inspiration you unknowingly gave me.
